It’s that time, people. I have to make a big decision.
I’ve had the same license plate since I bought my first car. It’s one of those old beat-up green ones. (I don’t have two because you only needed one back when I got it. On my first car I had one of those airbrushed license plates of hot air balloons on the front. Sweeeeeeet!)
So after [does math on fingers] 21 years with the same license plate, I’m considering getting either one of those charity plates (Red Sox or the Trust one with the mill on it) or getting a vanity plate.
Because if I don’t just cut the cord on my plate, I’m thinking I will have it for so long that I won’t be able to get rid of it because it will be an antique. But is that a bad thing? Do people think “hey, that’s an old plate” when they see an old style plate on the road?
I need your input, people. I have to renew my registration in March. Okay? Okay.
Keep your old plate! I cried when I turned mine in after 16 years. And they take it, you can’t even keep it as a token.
I think it would be really cool if you had a the plate “dumptruck” on what I assume is a non-dumptruck type vehicle. There is, however, something to be said for the vintage appeal of the old plate. Does it still look good? If it looks shabby, and makes you feel shabby about your car, maybe it’s time to give it up.
Keep the green plate. They’ve become a sort of status symbol.
I signed up for a Celtics plate last year (yes, before they got good again) and I’m still waiting for them to begin production. I’m holding off on renewing my current registration (due end of March) because I don’t want to get hit up twice, if the Celtics plate comes along in the meantime.
Keep the old plate, however they have been recently a dead give away for slow drivers..
I gave up one green place to get one with a lightning bolt on it (see if anyone knows what that is ?). The other green I gave up was for my old Galaxie, I wanted to put it on antique plates to save insurance $. Although I cheat a bit and put a ’67 Mass plate on front and leave and antique out back. Keep the old plate. It’s a status symbol to those of us forced to get new plates by our State.
Our state makes us get new plates every 7 years(WA). I just get to remembering my number and they change it. The plate goes with the car when you sell it here, it stinks if you change cars regularly.-Karen
So it appears that the final decision is….keep the old plate.
I’m 50/50 on this one, so it’s good to get outside input. I keep thinking I’ll have to own more than one car (for me) to be able to keep that plate AND have a splashy new one. Maybe I’ll get a summer-only car just for that reason!
