The inside of my nose is itchy, so if I seem distracted this morning, it’s because it’s driving me crazy. I don’t really know what else I can do, other than squirting lotion or something in there. In order to scratch the itch, I look like I’m picking my nose, so I’m trying to avoid doing that. I have no idea what caused the irritation that makes it itchy, but I’m willing to offer my nose a dollar if it will just stop it.
Other than the itchy nose…
Oh, I thought this was interesting. Yesterday I sent Mr. Dump to the Leominster Post Office to mail out our taxes. See, nobody can point and call me a slacker. I don’t wait for the last day to mail MY taxes. (They were done a few weeks ago, but I was in no hurry to mail out the checks.) We had a bunch of stamps at home so we just loaded up the envelopes, but I wanted him to give them to a person instead of a mailbox. That always makes me feel better. So around 7pm, he went inside to hand them to the lady at the counter. And she told him that in her whole 12 hour shift so far, he was literally the first person to hand her stuff to mail to the IRS. As in, nobody else walked in even to have their envelopes metered. What? How can he be the FIRST person to mail his taxes inside the post office the whole day? She said that because of him she lost a bet (I assume that nobody would be mailing their taxes inside the post office yesterday.)
Well, her theory is more people are doing electronic filing, but my theory is that they will be arriving in droves today.
So tell me…did you mail your taxes? And if so, did you just pop them in a mailbox, or did you go into a branch of the Post Office and hand them to someone (either because you needed to weigh them, or because you’re paranoid like me)?
I did mail my taxes but I measured them at work on the postage meter. However, I put a bank check in instead of a personal check because I really just don’t like having to keep track of that much money going out of my account and having it bounce for some $2.00 coffee purchase at Dunkin Donuts. Know what I mean?
We owe money too, so we waited until the absolute, positive last minute. Hubby called me on the way in for my soc, as he efiled last night but still needs to mail the check. He’ll be hitting the Leominster PO, which is open until 7, hard this evening.
Ooh, that was smart doing a bank check. Although last year that check was cleared in record time. I don’t think they sit on them at ALL.
My Mom says if your nose is itchy, someone is talking about you.
Electronic filing is the way to go. Although I have someone do it
for me because I am just too busy. The little $$ I had coming back came w/i a week or two.
My daughter is cooking dinner tonite (15 yr old), wife and I married 25 years today ! Will be interesting experiment. err.. cooking that is.. although I got a card today that said “Marriage is one of the best mistakes you can make”. Yup – agree… Enjoy
Itchy nose means you’re going to kiss a fool. haaa!
Efiled weeks ago. Got my refunds direct deposited.
oh yeah, and my Leominster accountant said that if you DON’T efile, they’ll be auditing you (the feds). My mother continues to file the old fashioned way…through the mail.
How can he make a claim like that? There are like a hundred reasons you can’t efile. They’re going to audit everyone who doesn’t?
Why is your accountant the only person who knows this tidbit?
I dumped my taxes in the mailbox. In February.
Do you have an accountant do your taxes? I certainly would never go to H&R Block.
Why does my accountant know this information and SHARE it? Not sure. As for why people can’t efile is beyond me unless you want to send an elephant to the IRS. If you have your paperwork organized, you just type in your figures, make up a 4 digit code to identify yourself and your refund is on its way to you.
Please elaborate on why someone can’t efile. This fascinates me. My mother won’t do it due to her distrust of computers.
By having people efile, it saves the state and IRS money so that someone doesn’t have to sit there opening up envelopes. Yes, those who have to pay and pay with a check (instead of a credit card and get frequent flyer miles, etc) need someone to open up and process the checks, too, but that’s a different ball of wax.
We efiled, so we’re safe. The big ol’ check is signed, sealed and delivered to the IRS via certified mail. Glad that crap is done for another year!
